Numerical Investigation of Al-Reinforced CFRP Composite under Low-Velocity Impact

چکیده
Fibre-reinforced composite materials are widespread in lightweight, high-performance applications. However, polymeric composites generally exhibit a brittle behaviour, which makes them susceptible to impact damage. Even low-velocity impacts can produce delaminations, cause substantial reduction of the compressive mechanical properties. Metallic layers have been embedded laminates with aim improve their fracture behaviour: aluminium plies be employed increase indentation resistance Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) specimens. For this reason, hybrid fibre-metal expected viable solution reduce damage caused by impacts. In work, CFRP specimens reinforced were modelled using finite element method and cohesive zone model. Cohesive elements based on traction-separation formulation at each ply-to-ply interface enforce delamination Different configurations Al reinforcements studied varying position between plies.

Numerical analysis of low velocity impact on ceramic-metal-composite targets
In the present paper, the problem of low velocity impact of plates made from different configurations of ceramic, aluminum, steel and composite (S-glass polyester) is analyzed numerically using Abaqus finite element software. The projectile is assumed to be a rigid body with a hemispherical head. Also, for ceramic layers, Holmquist constitutive model, for aluminum and steel layers, Johnson Coo...
متن کاملInvestigation of Repeated Low Velocity Impact Behaviour of GFRP /Aluminium and CFRP /Aluminium Laminates
The objective of this research was to investigate esponse of repeated low velocity impact tests on glass fibre/ epoxy-Al metal laminates (GEAML) and carbon fibre/ epoxy-Al metal laminates (CEAML) at the same location using drop-weight tester. CEAML, GEAML as well as monolithic Al panels of the same thickness were impacted repeatedly up to four impacts. The effect of repeated impacts on specimen...
متن کاملLow Velocity Impact Damage Prediction in Laminated Composite Plates
In this paper, a finite element model is presented for the transient analysis of low velocity impact, and the impact induced damage in the composite plate subjected to low velocity impact is studied. The failure criteria suggested by Choi and Chang and the Tsai-Hill failure criteria are used for the prediction of the damage in the composite plate; then the effect of various parameters on the im...

In the present paper, a numerical study is performed to investigate the response of different plates aluminum alloys subjected to low velocity impact condition. In this regard, the square AA5083-H116 aluminum plates with dimensions 300×300 and 3 mm and 5 mm thick under low velocity impact are modelled, and a mesh convergence study is carried out to decide the appropriate number of elements. In ...
متن کاملLow-velocity Impact of Sandwich Composite Plates
In this paper we investigate impact and compression after impact properties of plain weave carbon fiber sandwich composites. Impact tests were conducted on different sample types to obtain information about absorbed energy and maximum impact force. The different samples consisted of foam-filled and hollow honeycomb cores with four-layer carbon fiber facesheets on one or both sides. The impact a...
